WESTFIELD, MA – In their biggest event of the year, the Merrimack men's cross country team finished 8th at the NE-10 Championships. The event was held at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. The Warriors finished as a team with a time of 2:13:22.65, edging out Saint Rose and Assumption, who finished 9th and 10th respectively.
Luis Cruz (Lawrence, MA) was the top finisher for the Warriors once again, finishing 47th overall in a time of 26:22.47. Junior John Lawrence (Peabody, MA) was next, posting a time of 26:42.56, which netted him 58th place. Evan Braz (Peabody, MA) continued the strong showing for the freshman class, finishing third for Merrimack. Braz posted a time 26:47.63 and finished 61st in the overall field.
"Every guy we ran today put up a solid performance" said head coach Chris Cameron "We are really starting to gel as we get ready for the NCAA regionals in two weeks. We have two solid weeks of training ahead to prepare for the race."
Harry Mullin (West Hartford, CT) continued a solid junior season, finishing in a time of 26:58.81, good for fourth on the team and 68th overall. After a gap without a Warrior finisher, Pat Lawlor (Haverhill, MA) and Nick Novaris (Plaistow, NH) finished together in 103rd and 104th, respectively. Lawlor crossed the line in 21:01.69 and Novaris followed right behind in 28:04.61.
The 8th place finish for the Warriors was an improvement from the 11th place finish from a year ago. The Warriors are back in action in two weeks at the NCAA Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston.
