NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Led by head coach Chris Cameron, who will enter his 18th season, the Merrimack cross country teams will open the 2011 season at the Skyhawk Invitational on September 3.
In September, Cameron's squads will also race in the Shacklette Invitational on September 10 and at the Codfish Bowl on September 24.
They will compete in the New England Championships on October 8 and the Northeast-10 Championship on October 22.
They will also host the annual Alumni Meet on October 1 at the Volpe Complex. The NCAA Northeast Regionals are scheduled for November 6 in Boston.
In 2010, the women's team was sixth in the Northeast-10, while the men's team finished 11th overall.
The women's squad will be led by Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) and Brianna Devereaux (Londonderry, NH), both of whom emerged last season.
"If our women's team is healthy, next season looks promising," said Cameron at the end of last season. "We peaked at the right time last year, and I was really pleased with their performance."
Harry Mullin (West Hartford, CT), John Lawrence (Peabody, MA), and John Doherty (Chelmsford, MA) will lead the way for the men, who look to stay healthy and improve in 2011.
With Merrimack adding indoor and outdoor track in 2010, most of the cross country team now trains year around and competes on the collegiate level for the first time in all three seasons.
"Adding track has paid dividends in our recruiting process," said Cameron. "As we move forward, we fully expect that adding track will continue to be a big boost for the cross country program, and for Merrimack as a whole."
