BRAGA (LONG JUMP), MUSCARO (200M) EACH EARN WEEKLY LEAGUE ROOKIE HONORS
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After posting victories in the long jump and the 200m dash, respectively, last weekend at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational, Merrimack College track & field freshmen John Braga (North Reading, Mass.) and Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.) have been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Men's Field and Women's Track Rookies of the Week, as announced Wednesday.
Both competitors earn their second league honors of the outdoor season and are repeat winners after being named the winners of the same awards last Tuesday.
Braga helped the Merrimack men place 13th out of 20 teams at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday by means of his victory in the long jump. The North Reading, Mass., native posted a final distance of 7.07m, four hundredths of a meter better than his previous personal best and six hundredths of a meter ahead of the next-closest finisher. Those efforts garnered 10 team points for the Warriors, who finished with 25 total points and 13th in the 20-team field.
Muscaro, meanwhile, added another accolade to her incredible freshman campaign with her second event victory of the outdoor season – and first in the 200m dash. The reigning NE-10 Indoor Women's Track Rookie of the Year blew away the field with a New England Championship qualifying time of 24.96 seconds, topping her previous personal best by nearly half of a second. Those efforts led the women's side to an 11th-place finish out of 20 teams.
Up next for the Warriors is a trip to Pennsylvania to compete in the Moravian College Invitational this coming Saturday (April 12).
