SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Highlighted by individual victories by freshmen John Braga (North Reading, Mass.), and Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.) in the long jump and 200m dash, respectively, the Merrimack College men's and women's track & field each posted top-13 team finishes at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday.

How It Happened
Competing against some of the top regional programs at the Division I, II and III ranks, Merrimack proved its status as one of the top teams in that category, as the women finished with an 11th-place standing in the team rankings while the men placed 13th in the 20-team field.

Braga was the highlight of the men's squad after winning the long jump, posting a final distance of 7.07m, four hundredths better than his previous personal best in the event.

Muscaro, meanwhile, was brilliant in the 200m dash, blowing away the field by nearly three tenths of a second and winning the race with a final time of 24.86 seconds, accounting for the second individual victory of the day.

On the men's side, sophomore Taylor Jean-Gilles (Woburn, Mass.) earned a top-10 finish in the 200m, placing 10th with a time of 22.85 seconds. In the 10,000m race, junior Sherif Ali (Cliffside Park, N.J.) placed third with a  time of 32:23.98 seconds, while John Spencer (North Haven, Conn.) finished sixth in the 110m hurdles at 15.24 seconds.

Finally, the men's 4x100m relay team placed fifth and was the top Division II finisher with a combined time of 44.09 seconds.

Over on the women's side, senior Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, N.H.) boasted a fourth-place finish in the 800m at 2:22.94 seconds, while sophomore Kerry Phelan (Peabody, Mass.) led the way in the 10,000m with a time of 39:40.00.

In field events, freshman Sarah Barnett (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished eighth in 1.53m, while sophomore Samantha Dee (Bedford, N.H.) and Leyna Tobey placed seventh and fifth, respectively, in the discus and javelin.

The Warriors continue the outdoor season a week from Saturday, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa., to partake in the Moravian College Invitational on April 12.
