How It Happened
Back on the courses for the first time since an impressive season-opening performance at the University of Vermont back in December, the Warrior men finished respectably thanks to a number of top-five performances, including a second-place finish and a win in a relay event. Those efforts pushed the Warriors' team score to sixth at the end of the day in an 11-team field.
In the sprint events, junior Anthony Arcari (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted an impressive fourth-place effort after finishing in a time of 7.16. In the 60m hurdles, John Spencer (North Haven, Conn.) finished in fifth (8.93) before moving to the mid-distance and distance events.
Cruz enjoyed Merrimack's best individual performance of the day, missing a first-place finish by less than half of a second and settled for a runner-up finish in the 800m run.
Moving to relays, the 4x200m quartet blew the field away with a three-second win, finishing with a time of 1:35.68.
Next weekend, Merrimack continues the indoor season with a split-squad event on Friday (Jan. 24) and Saturday (Jan. 25); part of the team will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University, and the rest will travel to Northampton, Mass., to compete in the Smith College Invitational.
