Men’s Track and Field Places 9th In Northeast-10 Championships at Southern Connecticut
NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack men's track and field team placed 9th this weekend in the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Jesse Fowler (Lynn, Mass.) qualified for the 100 meter dash finals with his time of 11.24 seconds yesterday. In the finals Saturday, he finished 8th with a time of 11.29 seconds. In the 200 meter dash event that ran Saturday, Francesco Cuesta was Merrimack's lone representative. He finished 9th overall registering a time of 22.48 seconds.
Merrimack also had one participant in both the 400 meter and 800 meter events. In the 400 meter, senior Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) was stellar for the Warriors. He finished 5th in the event with a time of 50.53 seconds placing him second on the school's all-time record list for that event. In the 800 meter run, freshman Luis Cruz (Lawrence, Mass.) also did very well recording a time of 1:57.47.
In the 5,000 meter run John Lawrence (Peabody, Mass.) finished 12th at 16:26.61. Ian Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) also finished in 12th in the 400 meter hurdles. He completed the event with a time of 59.63. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase event, sophomore Jason LeFavor (Sandwich, Mass.) competed and registered a time of 10.47.69.
In field events for the day, Merrimack had three participants for three events. Anthony Baccini (Billerica, Mass.) placed in the top five of the triple jump event with a combined distance of 12.90 meters. Nour Shahin (Peabody, Mass.) competed in his usual events and excelled in both. In the shot put, he registered a distance of 13.89 meters which was good for 7th place in the event. In the discus throw he shined, finishing in the top five of the event with a distance of 45.47 meters which qualified him for the New England Championships. Tim Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) also competed in the discus event with a distance of 33.37 meters.
The final event of the season for the men's track and field team is the New England Championships which will be held next Saturday, May 12.
