NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack men's track and field team competed on Friday afternoon in the first day of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Warriors had four competitors in the 100 meter dash. Jesse Fowler (Lynn, Mass.) led all Merrimack participants in the event with a time of 11.24 seconds placing 7th overall. Not far behind was freshman Anthony Arcari (Tewksbury, Mass.) who registered a time of 11.58 seconds nearly tying his personal best record that he set at the Bridgewater State Invitational on March 24. Rounding out the 100 meter dash event for the Warriors were fellow freshmen Gray Howard (Salem, NH) and Mike Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) who finished with times of 11.87 and 11.90 seconds respectively.
Merrimack had two participants in their only other track event of the day, that being the 10,000 meter run. John Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.) brought solid effort finishing in a time of 34:14.15. Sophomore Nick Novaris also ran well as he finished shortly behind Doherty with a finals time of 36:19.64.
In field events, the Warriors were represented by Ian Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) and Anthony Baccini (Billerica, Mass.). Weaver participated in the high jump event and excelled finishing in 6th with a leap of 1.90 meters. Baccini registered a distance of 6.22 meters in the long jump.
The Warriors will compete in day two of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Championships tomorrow, Saturday May 5.
