RALEIGH, NC – The Merrimack track team participated in the Raleigh Relays on Friday on the campus of North Carolina State. The Warriors participated in three events and set school record in each event on the afternoon.
"Our trip to NC State proved to be a huge sucess as each athlete a personal best," said head coach Matt Pimentel. "Several school records were broken against some of the toughest competition in the country."
In the first event of the afternoon Merrimack had three runners participating. Anne Bajor (Methuen, Mass.) set a school record of 18:14 in the 5,000 meter run and won her race. Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, CT) also set a personal best in the race finishing in 18:40. Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) was the third Warrior to set a personal record on the afternoon in finishing the race in 19:05.
Later in the afternoon, junior Jesse Fowler (Lynn, Mass.) set a personal best mark of 10.97 seconds in the 100 meter dash for the Warriors. Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) was the fifth Warrior of the afternoon to set a personal best mark as she finished the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:46.
All five Warriors that ran in the Raleigh Relays set personal best mark for the Warriors. Three school records were also set on the afternoon by the Warrior runners.
The rest of the Merrimack track team is in action tomorrow at the Snowflake Classic.
