Men’s Track & Field Turns in Strong Performances at GBTC Meet
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Merrimack men's track and field team posted eight Northeast-10 qualifying marks at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational Sunday.
Jesse Fowler (Lynn, MA) led the way with two Northeast-10 qualifying times while also earning a spot in the field at the New England Championships. Fowler qualified for the Northeast-10 Championships in the 60 and 200 meter dashes. The junior's time of 7.08 in the 60 meter dash earned him a second-place finish after turning in the top time in the preliminaries.
Mike Kelley (Stoneham, MA) also qualified for the Northeast-10 Championships in the 60 meter dash.
Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) turned in two qualifying times on the day, earning spots in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. The senior co-captain claimed ninth in the 200 meters and 11th in the 400 meter dash.
Luis Cruz (Lawrence, MA) captured eighth-place in the mile run with a time of 4:28.33 to qualify for the Northeast-10 Championship meet.
In the 3,000 meter run, John Doherty (Chelmsford, MA) picked up 23rd place with a time of 9:20.23. Doherty's mark meets the league standard to earn him a spot in the field at the Northeast-10 Championships.
Anthony Baccini (Billerica, MA) leaped 5.57 meters to finish 12th in the triple jump and qualify for the league championship meet.
"I was really proud of the number of great efforts put forth today by our team. It was great to see many runners qualify for the Northeast-10 Championships," said head coach Matt Pimentel.
Merrimack will return to the track January 28 as it takes part in the Terrier Classic held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
