Sprinters, Jumpers Shine as Men’s Track & Field Competes at Harvard Open
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Merrimack men's track and field team sent a small group of sprinter and jumpers to the Harvard Open to kick off the 2011-12 indoor season Saturday. The abbreviated squad turned in six Northeast-10 qualifying marks in the first meet of the year.
Anthony Arcari (Tewksbury, MA) led the way with a 15th-place finish in the 60 meter dash. Arcari qualified for the finals in the event with a time of 7.26 in the preliminaries. The freshman bested his initial time by 0.01 seconds in the finals to qualify for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship meet.
In the 200 meter dash, Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) led the Warriors in the event with a 17th-place finish as he qualified for the league championship meet with a time of 23.27. Ian Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) came in just half a second later to earn 34th place while also posting a Northeast-10 qualifying mark.
Ethan Weaver also qualified for the Northeast-10 Championships in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.39, good for 10th place.
Ian Weaver cleared 1.80 meters in the high jump to earn a spot at the Northeast-10 Championships and place 14th in the event.
Anthony Baccini (Billerica, MA) met the Northeast-10 standard with a vault of 5.90 meters in the long jump. Bacini claimed 23rd in the field of 46.
"Today was a very positive first meet for our young team. It showed our athletes worked hard this fall in preparation for today. To have more than half of our athletes who competed, qualify for the conference meet is a successful day," said head coach Matt Pimentel.
Merrimack's second meet of the season is slated for January 14 at the Tufts Invitational.
