NEW ORLEANS- Freshman Josh Henry (Westport, Conn.) of the Merrimack men’s indoor track team has been selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Team, as announced by the USTFCCCA earlier in the week.
This marks the first time that the USTFCCCA has honored Division II indoor track & field athletes. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three earned All-Region distinction for the 2010-11 indoor season.
Henry claimed second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.33 meters at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Feb. 17 to help the Warriors to a ninth-place finish. His performance at the NE10 Championships shattered a personal best by nearly a full meter. The jump was also the second-best in the conference during the winter.
The rookie competed at only two meets prior to the league championship event. In his first meet, Henry captured 13th in the triple jump with a bound of 12.35 meters.
A product of Westport, Conn., Henry was one of 1,039 athletes to receive all-region nods in the inaugural class. He was also one of 90 men’s honorees from the Northeast-10 Conference, the most of any conference.
Henry and the Warriors open the spring outdoor slate March 19 at the Northeastern University Spring Carnival.
