Men's Tennis Tops Stonehill, 8-1, in Regular Season Finale


NORTH ANDVOER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team defeated Stonehill College by the score of 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at North Andover High School. The Warriors rise to 12-7 overall on the year including a perfect 10-0 record in league matches and the #1 overall seed for the conference tournament.

How it Happened

The Warriors picked up two of a possible three points in doubles action on Saturday.

The top duo of Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) defeated their opponents by the score of 8-6 in No. 1 doubles action. Sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.

Merrimack secured all six points in singles action to claim the 8-1 victory over the Skyhawks.

In singles action, Pronesti defeated Nick Hyzak in No. 1 action by the score of 6-2, 6-2 while Belfort defeated Eric Ringstad 7-6, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. C. Barnhart stayed hot with his 6-4, 6-1 victory over Philip Klados. In No. 4 singles, Bellino claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Tom Alaimo.

Freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) secured a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brett Armstrong. In the final match of the day, freshman Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) defeated Jared Drzal in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6.
