Men’s Tennis Blanks Bentley, Remains Unbeaten in NE-10 Action


WALTHAM, Mass. – In the battle of the two unbeaten Northeast-10 teams, the Merrimack College men's tennis team swept Bentley University, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bentley Tennis Courts in Waltham, Mass.

How it Happened:

Merrimack claimed all three doubles points to hold a 3-0 lead at the beginning of singles action.

Sophomore Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.)and senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) captured an 8-6 win for Merrimack in the No. 1 match against Kamil Pilch and Alex DeMuth. The No. 2 duo of junior Vince Bellino(Amesbury, Mass.) and sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) followed with an 8-3 win against Sam Frye and Jimmy Rindo. Freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) concluded doubles play with an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 match.

With a 3-0 overall lead after doubles, the Warriors would look towards singles play to extend their lead. Pronesti would take care of Rindo in the No. 1 match, 6-7, 6-0, 10-8, while Belfort secured a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 2 match. Bellino would conclude the first set of singles matches with an 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 match.

Bellino would capture a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 victory in his No. 4 match against Chase Rose while J. Barnhart took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Evan Chomka. Majewski concluded the match with an 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 6 match as the Warriors swept the Falcons 9-0.

Up Next

The Warriors return to action tomorrow (April 7), when they travel back up to Manchester, N.H. to finish the dual match against Southern New Hampshire University. Merrimack held a 4-2 lead over the Penmen and the game was postponed due to rain.
