Men’s Tennis Blanks Saint Michael's, Improves to 4-0 in NE-10

WARRIORS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE ACTION

COLCHESTER- Vt. - The Merrimack College men's tennis team remains unbeaten in conference action with a 9-0 victory at Saint Michael's Saturday afternoon. The Warriors rise to 5-3 on the year and 4-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Purple Knights slide to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in league matches.

How it Happened

The match began with doubles play as sophomore Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) captured an 8-3 win for Merrimack in the No. 1 match against Nick Bosco and Tom Brahm. The No. 2 duo of junior Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) and freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) followed with an 8-6 win against Hayden Steward and Chris Allen. Sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) concluded doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Sam Laves and Ben Lambert in the No. 3 match.

With a 3-0 overall lead after doubles, the Warriors would look towards singles play to extend their lead. Pronesti would take care of Bosco in the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-1, while C. Barnhart secured a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No.  3 match against Brahm. Bellino would conclude the first set of singles matches with an 8-4 victory over Steward to give Merrimack a 6-0 overall lead.

Belfort would capture a 6-0, 6-1 victory in his No. 2 match against Billy Wood while J. Barnhart took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Charlie Merry. Majewski concluded the match with an 8-2 victory in the No. 6 match against Laves as the Warriors swept the Purple Knights 9-0.

The Warriors return to action Saturday, March 8th when the team travels to Rindge, N.H. to take on Northeast-10 opponent Franklin Pierce. First match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
