Men's Tennis Tops Saint Anselm, 9-0, Sunday Morning

WARRIORS DEFEAT HAWKS IN FIRST CONFERENCE MATCH OF THE SPRING CAMPAIGN

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Merrimack College men's tennis team snapped a two-game losing streak, as the Warriors defeated Northeast-10 rival Saint Anselm, 9-0, Sunday morning at the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts.

How It Happened

The Warriors dominated all the doubles matches on Sunday morning. Senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Pronesti(Mission Viejo, Calif.) downed John Joyce and Kevin Greene, 8-0. Freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Vince Bellino(Amesbury, Mass.) also downed their opponents by the score 8-1. Sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and rookie Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) continued their strong play defeating Phil Hodgkins and Joe Cahill, 8-0.

Merrimack dominated all six singles matches on the morning. Pronesti defeated John Joyce by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Belfort defeated Kevin Greene in the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Chris Barnhart won the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-0. James Barnhart swept Chris Parent, 8-0. Majewski defeated Peter O'Connell, 8-0, while freshman Tayyab Sheikh (Longmeadow, Mass.) also picked up the victory on Sunday, by the score 8-0.
