Men's Tennis Defeats Assumption on Sunday, 8-1

WARRIORS COLLECT FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OF THE SEASON

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team picked up their first conference victory of the season on Sunday as they down Assumption College by the score of 8-1.

How It Happened
The Warriors dominated all the doubles matches on the afternoon. Senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) downed Waung and Rahnasto by the score 8-1. Freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) also downed their opponents by the score 8-2. Sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and rookie Tayyab Sheikh (Longmeadow, Mass.) continued their strong play defeating LaMonica and Breen from Assumption 8-0.

Merrimack dominated five out of the six singles matches on the afternoon, while defaulting the number six slot. James defeating Waung by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Chris and Pronesti also picked up victories on Sunday by the score of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively. Bellino won the no. 4 spot 6-2, 6-1. Sheikh took the final match of the day by a score of 8-3.
