Men's Tennis Downs Southern Maine, 6-1

WARRIOR'S START OFF THE 2013 SEASON WITH A BIG WIN OVER SOUTHERN MAINE

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season on Wednesday as they downed Southern Maine by a score of 6-1. With the win, Merrimack improves to 1-0 overall.

How It Happened
The Warrior's dominated doubles action on Wednesday, taking the 2-0. The top pair Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.)  posted a 8-3 victory while in no. 2 doubles action, Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) and Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) downed their opponent 8-2.

The Navy and Gold put their opponents away in singles action, picking up four of a possible five points.  Barnhart prevailed 7-6 and 6-2 at the no. 1 spot while Pronesti won 6-2 and 6-4 at the no. 2 spot.

Bellino earned a two-set victory at the no. 3 position. He won the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-0. At the no. 4 slot, Majweski took the two-set victory 6-1 and 6-1. Tayyab Sheikh (Longmeadow, Mass.) lossed 8-6 at the no. 5 slot.

"I am very proud of how our guys came out and played today" said head coach Peter Arsenault. "We came through with six victories which was big for us and a great start to the season."
