Men's Tennis Opens 2013-14 Season at Brown Invitational

WARRIORS OPEN UP 2013 CAMPAIGN IN PROVIDENCE, R.I.

EASTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team opened up their 2013-2014 season at the Brown University Invitational. The teams that participated in the Invitational were Brown University, Marist College, Bryant University, University of Connecticut, Colgate and Boston University.

How It Happened

Singles:
In the second draw, sophomore Miguel Belfort (Caracus, Venezuela) lost his first two matches before beating a BU player in the third match.

In the third draw, senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) lost a tough first match against a player from Brown in a third set super tiebreaker, before going on to win his final two matches against two players from Bryant.

In the fifth draw, freshman James Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) won his first two matches against players from UConn and Tufts, before losing in the finals to a player from Bowdoin. 

In the sixth draw, sophomore Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) won his first match against a player from UConn, but lost his final two matches

In the seventh draw, Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) lost his first against a player from BU.

In the ninth draw, freshman Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) won his first two matches against players from UConn and Tufts, before losing in the finals against a player from BU.

Doubles:

In the second draw, Pronesti/Barnhart lost to Marist in the first match, won their second match against a team from Bryant, and lost their third against a team from UConn

In the third draw, Belfort/Bellino lost their first match to a team from Bowdoin, won their second match to a team from Bryant, and lost their third match to a team from Colgate.

In the fourth draw, J. Barnhart/Majewski won their first two matches against teams from Tufts and UConn before losing their third match against a team from Colgate.

"I thought that everyone put in a great effort top to bottom and hopefully we can build on this moving forward in conference play," said head coach Peter Arsenault

Up Next
The Warriors return to action when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday, Sept. 17, to face Chestnut Hill College. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
