Men's Tennis Begins the 2013 Season at the Brown Invitational

REIGNING NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONS LOOK TO START THE 2013 SEASON ON A STRONG NOTE

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team opens the 2013 campaign on the road at the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island. The tournament is comprised of Brown University, Marist College, Bryant University, University of Connecticut, Colgate and Boston University.

Last Time Out

The Warriors are coming off a fantastic 2012-2013 season, winning the Northeast-10 Championship for the second consecutive year and also making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Warriors wrapped up the season with a 15-5 overall record, which was a new program-low in losses in a season. The men's side went a perfect 9-0 in conference play in 2012-2013.

Merrimack was led by Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) in No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles. The sophomore finished the season 5-8 in singles and 3-3 in doubles. Matt Lipinski (Arlington, Mass.) and Matt Pronesti (Mission Viejo, Calif.) saw action in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spot. Lipinski finished 6-8 and Pronesti finished 5-6 in singles.

The Warrior Men:

  • Merrimack returns several young and promising stars, including sophomores Miguel Belfort, Matt Lipinski, and Matt Pronesti.
  • Senior Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) highlights the upperclassmen core finishing 10-4 in singles and 9-3 in doubles.
  • The Warriors welcome newcomers James Barnhart, Nick Majewski, and Tayyab Sheikh.
