NORTH ANDOVER, MA - After capturing its third straight Northeast-10 Regular Season title, the Merrimack men's tennis team will enter the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on Friday as the No. 1 seed. The Warriors posted a perfect 9-0 record in league matches this season to go along with a 12-4 overall mark.
As the top-seeded team, Merrimack received a first-round bye and will take to the courts April 19 for the semifinals. The Warriors will host #5 Adelphi, who upset #4 Stonehill in the quarterfinals, on Friday at 2 p.m. at North Andover High School. There will be no charge for those fans planning to attend.
With a victory in the semifinal round, Merrimack will advance to its fourth Northeast-10 Tournament Championship match in five years. Merrimack has gone undefeated in regular season league play over the past two seasons as they have went 19-0.
Bentley earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament while Southern New Hampshire garnered the third seed.
The Warriors are seeking to reach their sixth-straight and sixth-ever NCAA Tournament. Merrimack suffered a second-round loss to Concordia in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) each earned first team all-conference accolades for their singles play as both players' compiled perfect 8-0 records in conference action. Senior Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) earned his fourth all-conference recognition of his career as he was named to the second team for singles and first team for doubles with teammate Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI). Golijanin finished with a 7-1 record in singles action and a perfect 5-0 record in doubles with Toegemann.
The freshman duo of Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and Mark Mallory (Portland, OR) finished off their first regular season's earning all-rookie team and second team singles all-conference accolades for the undefeated Warriors.
