Men’s Tennis Defeats Division I Hartford, 6-3

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's tennis team defeated division I Hartford by the score of 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at North Andover High School. The Warriors rise to 12-4 overall on the year including a perfect 9-0 record in league matches and the #1 overall seed for the conference tournament.

The Warriors were able to pick up two of a possible three points in doubles action on Sunday. The top duo of Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and Matt Lipinski (Arlington, Mass.) defeated their opponents by the score of 8-6 in no. 1 doubles action while Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) cruised to an 8-5 victory in the no. 2 doubles match.

In singles action, Belfort defeated his opponent in no. 1 action by the score of 6-1, 6-4 while Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) defeated his opponent by the same score. Lipinski stayed hot with his 6-2, 7-6 victory over Marco Neves in the no. 2 singles slot while Barnhart won once again in the no. 3 slot by the score of 6-3, 6-3.

Merrimack will play division I Bryant University on Monday at 3 pm. The Warriors will open the Norhteast-10 Conference Tournament on Friday at 2 p.m. against the winner of #5 Adelphi and #4 Stonehill. The match will be played at North Andover High School.
