Men's Tennis Collects 18th Straight Conference Victory; Defeats Bentley 7-2

WOBOURN, MA – The Merrimack men's tennis team continued to dominate league opponents on Wednesday afternoon as they beat the Bentley Falcons by the score of 7-2 to win their 18th straight conference match, dating back to last season.

With the win, Merrimack improves to 10-4 overall and 8-0 in NE-10 action. With a Stonehill loss on Friday, Merrimack would clinch at least a share of the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship for the third straight season.

"We fought hard today and beat a very good Bentley team," said head coach Sean Tully. "I feel like we are playing some of our best tennis right now which is good as we head towards the NE-10 Conference Tournament."

Merrimack dominated the Falcons in doubles action on Wednesday afternoon as they picked up all three possible points. The top duo of Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and Matt Lipinski (Arlington, Mass.) controlled their match throughout, winning by the score of 8-2. Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) stayed hot as they won their match by the score of 8-4 while the senior duo of Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) sneaked out a 8-6 victory in no. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Bellino and Barnhart both picked up convincing victories by the same exact score of 6-0, 6-4. Lipinski picked up his second victory of the afternoon in no. 2 singles play, defeating Jimmy Rindo by the score of 6-1, 6-3. Golijanin had to fight for his second victory of the day, as Lucas Wever pushed the match to three sets but just fell short, falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.

Merrimack will return to the courts on Saturday, April 13 as they travel to take on conference foe, Stonehill for a 12 p.m. start.
