NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) of the men's tennis team received the Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award in tennis for 2011-12, marking the second consecutive season.
The Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence awards honor one student-athlete in each of the conference's 23 sports that combine excellence both on the field and in the classroom. The awards are selected by a vote of athletics administrators at each of the NE-10's 16 institutions.
Golijanin finished off an impressive junior season with first team all-conference honors in both singles and doubles for the Warriors. He recorded a team-high 19 victories in singles action while also compiling a team-high in doubles victories.
Golijanin was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic team for the second consecutive season.
Merrimack finished the 2011-12 season with an 18-8 overall record, setting a new program record for most wins in a season. After claiming the Northeast-10 Tournament Crown, the Warriors earned an automatic bid to their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament. Merrimack topped Bentley 5-0 in the opening round before falling to #7 Concordia in the second stage.
