NIAGARA FALLS, NY- The Merrimack men's tennis team had its match against Roberts Wesleyan cut short due to darkness Saturday at Niagara University. The match was halted at 4-3 with the Warriors trailing.
Merrimack faced a 2-1 deficit at the conclusion of doubles play. The Warriors' lone victory came at the No. 3 position as Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) prevailed 8-5. At the top slot, Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) suffered an 8-4 loss. Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) and Vince Bellino (Amesbury, MA) fell 8-1 at the second doubles spot.
Toegemann claimed a 9-7 victory at the sixth singles match. Golijanin triumphed at the No. 3 position, taking the second set and third-set tie-breaker after dropping the first.
When play was called, the Warriors led in the two remaining matches. Bellino held a 7-6 advantage in the first set while Barnhart was leading 6-2 in a third-set tie-breaker.
"We faced some adversity today with a lengthy wait to start the match. We played well in singles matches and we had some good results," said head coach Sean Tully.
The Warriors will take on the host Purple Eagles tomorrow, October 9.
