Shorthanded Men’s Tennis Defeats Le Moyne 7-2

SYRACUSE, NY – Despite wielding a five-player lineup, the Merrimack men's tennis team topped Le Moyne 7-2 Saturday. The Warriors improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Dolphins slide to 0-2 overall and in league action.

Merrimack captured both doubles matches that were played and conceded the third point. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) edged Le Moyne's Daniel Sullivan and Ken Schiefer 9-7 at the top spot. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 position.

The Warriors also claimed all of the singles matches that were contested. Merrimack was forced to forfeit the sixth singles match.

Barnhart rolled past Sullivan at the No. 1 singles slot 6-0, 6-1. Eppley picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at the second singles position.

Golijanin earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory playing at the third spot. Pahler prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth singles slot. Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) doubled up Schiefer at the No. 5 position, winning 8-4.

"Our guys did really well today to overcome the two point deficit we faced due to forfeiting some matches," said head coach Sean Tully. "Today's win was critical to start the conference schedule 1-0."

Merrimack will travel back to the Empire State next weekend to face Niagara October 8 and Roberts Wesleyan October 9.
