NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Sophomore Ronald Ried (Schwendi, Germany) of the Merrimack College men's soccer team has been selected to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team, as announced Thursday afternoon.

The sophomore Business major, who boasted a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) through the end of the 2012-13 academic year, joins other student-athletes from across the country who were of sophomore class year or higher and owned at least a 3.30 GPA.

Ried has been an instrumental component of a Merrimack defensive unit that has yielded just nine goals 16 games this fall, and has pulled his own weight on offense as well, tallying two goals and contributing three assists.

Last season, Ried was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team and NSCAA All-East Region Third Team. The Schwendi, Germany, native contributed to one of the best Merrimack defensive units in program history, helping the team set a single-season record in allowing just 12 goals last year.

In 2013, Merrimack wrapped up the regular season with a 12-3-1 overall record with a 10-2-1 mark in league play. The Warriors, who earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NE-10 Championship, will host a quarterfinal matchup next Tuesday, Nov. 5. The time and opponent are yet to be determined.
