SOUTH EASTON, MA- Senior Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) of the Merrimack men's soccer team has been selected to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference squad. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the minimum requirements of participation in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and complete at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
The Warriors’ women’s soccer and field hockey teams led the way with two honorees each. The Merrimack men’s soccer and football teams were also represented.
April Daugherty (Wakefield, RI) and Victoria DeLacey (Charlton, MA) of the #3 Merrimack field hockey team both earned spots on the Academic All-Conference team for the first time in their careers. DeLacey, a senior communications major, registered five points on a goal and three assists this season. She started all 20 games this fall for the Warriors and was selected to play in the NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star Game.
A communications major, Daugherty was tabbed the 2011 Northeast-10 Player of the Year this season after tallying a team-high 50 points on 22 goals and six assists. A first team All-American and All-Conference selection, the junior co-captain became the program’s all-time leader in goals and points this fall. Daugherty is the first player in program history to amass 100 career points as she concluded her junior campaign with 108 career points.
Jessica Peacock (Hopedale, MA) and Kiley Horne (Scituate, MA) of the Merrimack women’s soccer team were also first-time honorees. Horne, a senior biology major, started all 22 matches in goal for the Warriors this season and sported a 16-4-2 overall record with nine clean sheets. The senior boasted a 1.09 goals-against average and racked up 121 saves on the year.
In 2011, Peacock was named to the NSCAA All-America and Academic All-America teams as well as being an All-Region first team pick. A psychology major, the senior co-captain registered nine points this season on three goals and three assists. Peacock, the 2011 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, anchored the Warriors’ defense which held opponents to just 1.10 goals per game.
Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) of the Merrimack men’s soccer team was tabbed to the Academic All-Conference team for the third time in his career. Sabadoz, a business major, paced the Warriors with 19 points on eight markers and three assists this fall. A Northeast-10 All-Conference first team selection, he became the third player in program history to record 100 career points and will graduate tied for second all-time in career goals scored.
Nick Desjardins (Somerville, MA) of the Merrimack football team earned Academic All-Conference status for the first time in his career this season. DesJardins, a health sciences major, totaled 52 tackles and three sacks in the fall. The senior defensive end saw action in all 10 games this year and recovered a fumble to go along with 8.5 tackles for a loss.
Collectively, a total of 92 student-athletes across the conference were selected to the Academic All-Conference team. Women’s soccer had the most honorees with 21 while field hockey and men’s soccer boasted 18 and 17, respectively.
