WORCESTER, MA - The Merrimack men's soccer team claimed a 3-0 victory at Assumption Saturday afternoon. The Warriors improve to 7-5-2 on the year and 5-4-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds dip to 2-7-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the league.
The Warriors held onto the one-goal lead at the midway point of the match. Merrimack outshot Assumption 7-4 in the opening 45 minutes while also capturing the lone corner kick of the frame.
Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) capped off the scoring with his seventh marker of the year to tie Mulkern for first on the squad. Sabadoz's tally gave Merrimack a 3-0 gap on the Greyhounds in the 82nd minute. Evan Burokas (Auburn, MA) picked up his third assist of the 2011 campaign on the Warriors' third goal of the day, pulling him even with Michael Rincon (Medford, MA) for the team-lead.
Merrimack finished the contest with 13 shots including 10 on frame. Assumption was limited to seven attempts in the match.
Mattias Drummond (Partille, Sweden) captured his seventh win of the season in goal for the Warriors. Matt Wrenn stopped six shots between the pipes for the hosts.
"Today was a crucial game for us and we got a good result," said head coach Tony Martone. "Our defense had a solid effort today and we capitalized on our opportunities. We are looking forward to our final two home games."
Merrimack heads into the final two home matches of the season following the win. The Warriors will take on Le Moyne October 19 and Bentley October 22.
