Men’s Soccer Places Five on NE-10 All-Conference Teams
EASTON, Mass.- Five members of the Merrimack men's soccer team were named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference teams. Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, Ontario) earned a spot on the first team for the second consecutive season. Evan Burokas (Auburn, Mass.) was tabbed to the second team, picking up his first-career all-conference honor. Franklin Pena (Revere. Mass.), Nicholas Lo Coco (Gloucestor, Mass.) and Olof Lindhe (Stockholm, Sweden) were all named to the third team. LoCoco and Pena are first-time honorees while Lindhe earned a slot on the third team last season.
Sabadoz paced the Warriors through the regular season with 21 points on eight goals and five assists. The junior co-captain received the most votes among all forwards. Sabadoz ranked second in the Northeast-10 in points, third in points per game, fourth in goals and goals per game.
Burokas ranked first in the conference with nine assists while adding five goals for Merrimack this year. The junior also stands second in assists per game with 0.56 helpers per match. Burokas appeared in 16 matches for the Warriors this season and made 15 starts along the way.
Pena tied for the team-lead with eight goals in 2010 and assisted on four others to finish with 20 points in his first season with Merrimack. The sophomore also ranked fourth in goals among all Northeast-10 players. Pena made an early impact for the Warriors as he netted the game-winning goal in his first match with the blue and gold.
Lo Coco tallied a goal and registered an assist this season while anchoring Merrimack's defense. The junior co-captain made 15 starts for the Warriors in 16 appearances this year. Lindhe has four goals and two assists to his credit this season, good for 10 points. The two players helped Merrimack post four shutouts while allowing 1.50 goals-per-game.
The Warriors finished the 2010 campaign with a 9-7-1 overall record with a 5-7-1 mark in the conference. Merrimack earned the eighth-seed in the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs and will play Franklin Pierce, the top team in the tournament and in the nation, in the quarterfinals.
