NORTH ANDOVER, MA - The Merrimack men's soccer team, ranked 25th nationally and fourth in the East region, won its third straight match to start the season 3-1 over Saint Anselm at a rainy Warrior Field Saturday night.
Merrimack dominated early, getting four corner kicks in the first 16 minutes. Wayne Sygrove (Yorkshire, England) fired a shot from just outside the box that tipped off a Saint Anselm foot and beat goaltender Hunter Wodden. Just one minute later, Matt Sanderson (Saugus, MA) found a rebound off a shot from Greg Motta (Saunderstown, RI) and drilled it past Wodden for the 2-0 advantage
Saint Anselm responded in the 32nd minute as Sam Lamptey broke through the defense and beat Rob Pedra (South Hamilton, MA) to his left to cut the score to 2-1.
Merrimack outshot the Hawks 14-3 in the first half and had six corners to none for the visitors.
Last week's Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) notched his fourth of the season perfectly executing a give and go with Tiago Dalboni (Medford, MA) midway through the second half to regain the two goal lead. Sabadoz has goals in each of his first three collegiate games.
