Mike Morgan is entering his third season as head coach of the
Merrimack College men’s lacrosse program. In August of 2009,
Morgan was elevated to a full-time position and also serves as the
department’s business manager, in addition to his men’s
lacrosse duties.
In each of his first two coaching seasons, Morgan guided the
Warriors to back-to-back school records for wins, including their
first-ever Final Four appearance in 2009. Merrimack finished 14-3
last year, losing three times to Le Moyne, while finishing second
in the conference and fourth in the country. Morgan coached Greg
Rogowski to his fourth All-American honor and to a Northeast-10 and
NEILA Player of the Year selection, while expanding his recruiting
efforts to a national level.
In 2008, he led Merrimack to a 12-4 record and a third place
conference finish. Setting what was then a school record for wins
in
a season, Morgan was named the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year and
the NEILA Coach of the Year. Cory Spinale was the NE-10 Goalkeeper
of the Year and an All-American honorable mention, while Rogowski
earned his third All-American honor.
Morgan previously served as an assistant coach at Merrimack,
working primarily with the defense.
Prior to his arrival at Merrimack last season, Morgan served as
the head lacrosse coach at St. Dominic High School for the past
four seasons. He led the team to 38 wins in four seasons, the most
in school history over a four-year stretch, and his teams were 24-1
against schools of comparable size. Additionally, his team GPA was
ranked in the top two of the school’s athletic teams over
four consecutive seasons.
In 2005, Morgan was selected to evaluate and coach the Long Island
Empire State Lacrosse Team. He also guided St. Dominic to its
first-ever Class AA Championship Game. He still holds the all-time
record at St. Dominic, where he was both captain and Team MVP in
1994, 1995 and 1996. Morgan was a CHSAA All-League selection in
1995 and 1996.
A 2000 graduate of Merrimack College, Morgan was named All-America
in 2000 when he earned First Team All-Northeast 10 and All-New
England honors. That year, he was also named New England Player of
the Year. He was a key member of the 2000 squad that captured
Merrimack’s first Northeast-10 Championship and two ECAC
Championships (1999, 2000).
Morgan resides in Somerville.
Chris Lewis enters his third season as the assistant men’s
lacrosse coach at Merrimack College.
Lewis brings two years of head coaching experience at Wilmington
High School to the Warrior bench, and has also served as an
assistant coach at both Saugus and Revere High School over the last
four years.
Lewis wrote a program manual for implementation of the lacrosse
and football programs, including the coordination between the
program, athletic department, and school.
Lewis graduated from SUNY Oswego in upstate New York with a degree
in chemistry.
Geoffrey Beckett enters his second season as an assistant
men’s lacrosse coach at Merrimack College.
Prior to Merrimack, Beckett spent the last two years as the head
varsity lacrosse coach and the last five years as the head football
junior varsity coach at Pentucket Regional High School. Beckett
also coached the JV lacrosse team in 2004-05 before moving to the
varsity squad.
He also teaches mathematics at Pentucket Regional in West Newbury,
Massachusetts.
Beckett graduated from the University of Massachusetts at
Dartmouth in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and is
now working to earn his Masters of Science in Mathematics for
Teachers from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Beckett resides in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
Andrew Vigne enters his first season as an assistant men’s
lacrosse coach at Merrimack College. Vigne will be working mainly
with the goaltenders this season, while also assisting with the
defense.
Prior to Merrimack, Vigne spent last spring coaching defense and
goalies at Middlesex School of the ISL. Middlesex finished the year
as ISL Co-Champions, with a 14-1 record, and fielded one of the
most dominating defenses in the league, which finished the year
allowing only 4.93 goals against/game.
Vigne graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC in 2008
with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Vigne was a four
year starter between the pipes for Guilford and finished his career
1st in minutes played (2,656), 2nd in GAA (12.54) and 3rd in saves
(674) in Guilford’s history, as well as twice recording the
third most saves in a game with 26 against Roanoke in 2005 and
Greensboro in 2007.
Vigne resides in Concord, Mass.
