SOUTH EASTON, MA - Merrimack lacrosse junior Greg Melaugh (Billerica, Mass.) has been named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Melaugh is the third Warrior this season to garner a weekly award as Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) was named Player of the Week for the week and Jamie Shand (Massapequa, NY) was named Rookie of the Week for the week of March 26.
The Civil Engineering major finished off his impressive week with 17 points, leading the Warriors to an undefeated week. Melaugh started off with a three goal performance against Saint Anselm on Tuesday night including scoring the game-winning goal with 10 second remaining in overtime. In Saturday's contest against the Bentley Falcons in the New England Lacrosse Classic held at Gillette Stadium, Melaugh netted five goals and added one assist. He was the hero for the second straight game as he netted the game-winning goal with 14 seconds to play. On Sunday against the pace Setters, Melaugh finished with a career-high seven goals and one assist, leading the Warriors to the 16-9 victory.
For the season, Melaugh has played in 10 of 13 games and is tied for the team lead with 42 total points and is 2nd in the Northeast-10 in goals with 31. He ranks 1st nationally in goals per game with 3.1 tallies per contest and 2nd in points per game racking up 4.20 points. With four game-winning tallies, Melaugh is tied for the team lead with DJ Brown (Huntington, NY).
Merrimack (11-2, 7-2 NE-10) will play its last game of the regular season on Saturday April 28 as they will travel to play the Assumption Greyhounds at 1:00 pm.
