Men’s Lacrosse Receives Highest Ranking in School History; Green Rookie of the Week

USILA Poll

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's lacrosse team received its highest ranking in school history on Monday, ranking #3 in the latest USILA poll. Freshman goalie Morgan Green (Portsmouth, RI) was also recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference as Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.

The Warriors improved to (6-0, 3-0 NE-10) on the season with an impressive 12-8 victory over the #5 Adelphi Panthers on Saturday in front of a packed crowd at Martone-Mejail Field. Merrimack was led in scoring by junior Greg Melaugh (Billerica, Mass.) who finished the day with two goals and three assists. Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) and Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) both added two goals and an assist in the victory.

With the win, the Warriors avenged a loss to the Panthers in the Northeast-10 Championship game last season.

Green finished off his impressive week for the Warriors allowing nine goals over a two game span. Green allowed only one goal in the Warriors 11-4 victory over the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Tuesday night on 11 shot attempts. In Saturday's top five matchup with the Adelphi Panthers, Green allowed eight goals on 19 shot attempts to preserve the Warriors 12-8 victory. With the two victories this week Green improves to a perfect 6-0 for the season, marking the best start to a season since 2009 when the Warriors went 9-0 to open up.

Green is the second Warrior to be recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference as Rookie of the Week as last week Jamie Shand (Massapequa, NY) yielded that honor.

Merrimack is one of five Northeast-10 Conference schools in the top 15 of the USILA poll.

The Warriors return to action this week with two games against top 15 opponents. The Warriors will take on #11 Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Martone-Mejail Field and they will travel to Syracuse to take on #2 Le Moyne on Saturday for a 1:00 pm game.
