#8 Men’s Lacrosse Earns Top Spot in New England D2 Preseason Poll

North Andover, Mass. – The #8 Merrimack men's lacrosse team received the number one overall spot in the New England D2 Preseason Poll announced on Wednesday.

Every school ranked in the top five is from the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Michael's College is in second place behind the Warriors followed by Bentley, Assumption and Saint Anselm.

The Warriors return their leading scorer from last year's 11 win team in Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ).   Lunney scored a team-high 39 goals last season and recorded 53 total points while being named NEILA All-New England Player of the Year.

Three other Warriors including senior defender Peter Schielke (Ridgefield, CT), senior faceoff specialist Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA) and junior midfielder Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) enter the season being named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse Magazine.

The Warriors defeated the Le Moyne Dolphins in the Northeast-10 semifinals last season after posting an 11-6 overall record and 6-4 conference mark. Merrimack however was defeated by the Adelphi Panthers in the Northeast-10 Championship game by the score of 13-8.

The Warriors will open up their 2012 schedule on the road on March 6 at Dominican (N.Y.) for a 4:00 pm game.
