#7 Mens Lacrosse Hosts Adelphi Friday in Northeast-10 Semifinals

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men’s lacrosse team, ranked seventh nationally and second in the conference tournament, will host Adelphi University Friday in the Northeast-10 Semifinals at Warrior Field at 7 p.m.
The Panthers rattled off eight unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Saint Anselm 11-8 in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The winner of Friday’s game will advance to Sunday’s Northeast-10 Championship and will face the winner of #1 Le Moyne/#4 Bentley, which is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. The finals will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
Earlier this season, the Warriors defeated the Panthers 6-5 as Merrimack scored four unanswered goals on April 3 at Warrior Field. Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA) netted the game-winning goal, while Mark Webber (Mansfield, MA), Greg Fallon (North Kingstown, RI) and Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA) also scored in the second-half comeback. Cory Spinale (Wakefield, MA) stopped 12 shots as Merrimack outshot Adelphi 37-27.
The Warriors (11-3) are seeded second in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament for the second straight season and are looking to advance to its second-straight championship game.
Merrimack’s offense is anchored by the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) who has 42 goals and 53 points. Other double-digit goal scorers include Bryan MacPhie (Scarborough, ME), Melaugh, Webber, Michael Balbuena (Falmouth, MA), Brad McAdam (Neshanic Station, NJ), and Nick Vazquez (Haverhill, MA).
Adelphi (10-4), winners of eight straight, is led offensively by Danny Blau (37 points) and Kevin Kemp (28 goals, 36 points). Devin Schneiderbauer, who stopped 18 shots against the Warriors earlier this season, stopped 15 shots in Tuesday’s victory over Saint Anselm. In Tuesday’s win, Joe Vitale and Connor McCann each scored three times, while Michael Rossi had three assists.
Tickets for Friday’s semifinal game are $5 for adults, $3 for children and seniors and $1 for college students with valid ID. The Merrimack Athletic Department will cover all ticket expenses for Merrimack students who show a valid student ID.
