Rogowskis Player of the Year Honor Headlines Five NEILA Selections
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Greg Rogowski (Cohoes,
NY) was named the 2009 Turfer/NEILA All New England Player
of the Year, while four of his teammates were also selected to the
team.
A three-time All-American and the Northeast-10 Player of the Year,
Rogowski led the conference with 52 goals and 82 points this
season, while leading Merrimack to its first-ever NCAA Division II
Final Four. Rogowski sits at 211 career goals, third all-time in
Division II history and has 311 career points, fourth all-time.
Other Merrimack selections include Jo Pisano (Dedham, MA),
Mark Webber (Mansfield, MA), Michael Miano (Branford, CT),
and Cory Spinale (Wakefield, MA).
There were 16 players named to the team, five each from Merrimack
and Bentley.
Pisano, also a Northeast-10 first-team selection, has 23 goals and
30 points this season, to go with five man-advantage goals.
Webber, a NE-10 second-team honoree, anchors the Warriors’
man-advantage and has eight goals and 18 points.
Miano, a preseason All-American in 2008 and a first-team NE-10
honoree this year, tallied 33 ground balls, tops among Merrimack
defenders and leads a group ranked fourth in the country in fewest
goals allowed.
Spinale, who was a NE-10 second-team selection this season and the
NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008, has a 6.71 goals-against and
a .650 save percentage, which ranks third nationally.
Other major award winners included Bentley’s Brendan Grant,
who was the Rookie of the Year, and Bentley’s Jim Murphy, who
earned Coach of the Year honors.
Merrimack (14-2) battles top-ranked Le Moyne Saturday at 1 p.m. in
a NCAA Division II semifinal showdown.
