Sam Marotta Earns Hockey East Defensive Player Of The Week For Third Time

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Junior goaltender Sam Marotta (Bridgewater, MA) was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Earning the award for the third time this season, Marotta made 31 saves in the Warriors 1-1 tie on Friday night in Orono, Maine. In Saturday's win, Marotta recorded 22 saves, leading Merrimack to the 3-2 victory.

The win moved the Warriors into fifth place in Hockey East, two points behind Providence and Boston University with one game-in-hand on each team.

Marotta ranks first in Hockey East in goals-against (2.04) and second in save percentage (.927). Over his last four games, the Bridgewater, Mass. native is 3-0-1 with a 1.00 goals-against average.
