Barton, Braithwaite Earn Hockey East Weekly Honors

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Chris Barton (Calgary, AB) was named the Hockey East Athletic Republic Player of the Week, while Andrew Braithwaite (Kingston, ON) earned Hockey East Pure Hockey Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Barton, who picked up a Hockey East weekly honor for the first time in his career, tallied three goals and four points in two games against #12 New Hampshire last week. He tallied two power play goals in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime loss. The junior captain netted his third two-goal game and eighth multi-point game of the season.

Barton is tied for fourth in Hockey East with 15 goals and tied for ninth with 26 points.

Braithwaite stopped 71 of 77 shots against the Wildcats over the weekend, including 43 stops on Saturday. He has started five of the last six games and is 6-5 on the season with a 2.99 goals-against and a .907 save percentage.

Merrimack hosts Northeastern University this Friday night and UMass Lowell Saturday night at Lawler Arena.
