Clifford Earns Second NE-10 Player of the Week Honor

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After leading the Merrimack men's basketball team to a huge 83-80 victory over UMass Lowell at Hammel Court on Saturday afternoon, as well as pacing the Warrior offense over the course of the week, senior forward Mike Clifford (Danvers, Mass.) has earned his second Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week award this season, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

Clifford was a dominating force in propelling the Navy and Gold to a key win at home against the River Hawks, as the senior captain posted a team-high 28 points while shooting 12-of-13 from the floor. The Danvers, Mass., native also hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds – including seven offensive boards – in that contest, and added a steal and two assists for good measure.

In total, Clifford eclipsed the 20-point plateau twice over the course of the week, including a 20-point performance at No. 10 Saint Anselm last Wednesday. Merrimack went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the country before eventually falling, 94-83. But Clifford again was stellar on the road against the Hawks, shooting 9-for-15 while pulling in eight rebounds and adding a steal and a block, as well.

Clifford finished the week with 48 points (14.0 ppg) and 22 rebounds (11.0 rpg) while shooting 21-28 (.750), as well. On the season, the forward leads Merrimack in scoring (16.4 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg), shooting percentage (.623) and blocks (19).

Currently tied for 12th place in the league standings, Merrimack travels to Saint Michael's for a huge Wednesday (Feb. 20) night showdown in Colchester, Vt. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
