Field Hockey Boasts Eight NFHCA National Academic Squad Members

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – One day after the Merrimack field hockey team earned NFHCA All-Academic Team honors, eight members of the squad have been named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad, as announced on Tuesday.

Headlining the team are All-American seniors Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) and Jen Otis (Penacook, N.H.), who were a part of the most successful senior class in program history. The duo led the team to back-to-back Northeast-10 Conference regular-season crowns, as well as consecutive trips to the NCAA Final Four.

Fellow All-American juniors Candace Waldie (North Andover, Mass.) and Sarah Dunbar (Hubbardston, Mass.) also found spots on the National Academic Squad. The former led the country in scoring in just her second season with the Warriors, while the latter was stalwart on defense and led the team in defensive saves.

Finally, four underclassmen rounded out the eight-team Merrimack portion of the National Academic Squad. Sophomore defender Katie Bishop (Kennett, N.H.) joined the freshman trio of Lindsay Dobecki (Scarborough, Maine), Katrina Squeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Sydney Bowker (Schenectady, N.Y.).

The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
