Field Hockey Earns NFHCA National Academic Team Award

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After repeating as Northeast-10 Conference regular-season champions and returning to the NCAA Final Four this past fall, the Merrimack field hockey team earned another prestigious honor Monday, being tabbed a 2012 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division II National Academic Team Award recipient, as announced today.

The National Academic Team Award recognizes institutions that have achieved a Team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year. The Warriors were amidst that group of 16 schools, marking just another highlight for a program that has made vast strides over the past two seasons under head coach Anne Rounce.

Merrimack boasted six All-American honorees and the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year this past fall. And despite the graduation of the most successful senior class in program history, the Warriors bring back plenty of contributors from this season, including the nation's leading scorer in junior Candace Waldie (North Andover, Mass.) as well as classmate Jessica Otis (Pittsford, N.Y.).

The returning supporting cast should have Merrimack right back in the title both at the conference level and national level hunt next fall.
