The #3 Merrimack field hockey team has been recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for its academic success this year. The Warriors were one of 19 Division II teams to receive the Team Academic Award for sporting a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as they garnered the distinction for the fifth-consecutive season.
Merrimack also placed eight players on the 2011 NFHCA Academic Team. A total of 249 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.30 or higher were selected to the NFHCA Academic Squad.
Senior co-captain Caitlin Kamide (Southbury, CT) led the way with her fourth selection to the NFHCA Academic Team while Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA), Victoria DeLacey (Charlton, MA) and Jen Otis (Penacook, NH) are all three-time recipients. Sophomores Sarah Dunbar (Hubbardston, MA) and Lindsay Grover (Barnstable, MA) picked up their second-career nods this season. Sarah Salatto (Guilford, CT) and Candice Waldie (North Andover, MA) rounded out the Warriors' honorees as first-time selections.
Merrimack posted a 17-4 overall record this fall and reached its first-ever NCAA Tournament before falling to #4 UMass Lowell in the national semifinals.
The Warriors captured the program's first-ever Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Title with a perfect 10-0 mark in league play. Merrimack set a school-record for most consecutive wins with a 17-game unbeaten streak.
