NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Anne Rounce, head coach of the #3 Merrimack field hockey team, has been tabbed the 2011 Dita/NFHCA Division II Regional Coach of the Year, in an announcement made by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Wednesday.
Rounce guided the Warriors to a 17-3 overall record in 2011. Under her tutelage, Merrimack posted an unblemished 10-0 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference en route to its first-ever regular season championship.
The Warriors received an at-large berth to their first-ever NCAA Tournament, earning the North Region's top seed and a bye to the Final Four.
The field hockey team set the school record for most consecutive wins with a 17-game winning streak. After dropping the season-opener to Indiana (PA), Merrimack rattled off 17-straight victories.
Rounce was also selected as the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year. Eight of her players earned Northeast-10 All-Conference honors this season while April Daugherty (Wakefield, RI) and Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) reeled in major postseason accolades.
