NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Junior Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Goalie of the Week for the fifth time this season. The Merrimack field hockey team stayed at #4 in the NFHCA National Poll announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bergquist was also recognized as the womensfieldhockey.com Division II Player of the Week, announced Tuesday morning.
Bergquist posted her 15th and 16th-straight victories of the fall to help the Warriors improve to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the Northeast-10. With the undefeated mark in league action, Merrimack clinched its first-ever regular season title and heads into the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament as the top seed.
Bergquist recorded five stops in the Warriors' 2-1 win over #5 UMass Lowell October 18. With the victory over the River Hawks, Merrimack secured a share of the Northeast-10 regular season crown. The lone goal Bergquist conceded was a penalty stroke with 11 minutes to play in the second half.
The junior closed out the regular season with a five-save performance in a 1-0 overtime-win for the Warriors against Adelphi October 23.
Bergquist sports a 0.71 goals-against average on the season with a 16-1 record between the pipes. Her 16 wins and nine shutouts this fall rank first in program history for highest single-season totals. Bergquist became the all-time winningest goalkeeper in program history earlier this season and has 37 victories to her credit in three seasons. She also set the all-time program mark for most shutouts in a career with 16 clean sheets.
Merrimack will host the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament October 28 and 30 at Martone-Mejail Field. The top-seeded Warriors will take on the winner of the quarterfinal matchup featuring Bentley at American International in the semifinals October 28 at 7 pm.
