Bergquist Repeats as Goalie of the Week, Field Hockey Soars to #8

NORTH ANDOVER, MA- The Merrimack field hockey team debuted at #8 in the first National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Poll of the season. This matches the highest ranking that the Warriors have received in program history as the 2009 team reached as high as #8.

Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) was tabbed the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the second week in a row. The junior stopped all 23 shots that she faced in a 2-0 week for the Warriors. Bergquist made four saves in a 2-0 win over #10 Bentley and turned aside 19 in a 4-0 victory over #4 Stonehill.

Merrimack boasts a 3-1 overall record on the season. The Warriors are riding a three-game winning-streak heading into Wednesday’s non-conference game at Saint Michael’s.

This season, Merrimack has claimed wins over three ranked opponents. After falling to #8 Indiana (PA) in the season-opener, the Warriors stunned #6 East Stroudsburg 3-2 in overtime on the road. Merrimack continued its winning-ways with a pair of home shutouts against #10 Bentley and #4 Stonehill.

April Daugherty (Wakefield, RI) leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Candace Waldie (North Andover, MA) has netted two goals this fall while dishing out one helper to rank second on the squad with five points.

Bergquist owns a 1.49 goals-against average and has stopped 51 shots on the year, including the last 24.
