NFHCA: Freshman Daugherty Named Division II All-American

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, April Daugherty (Lincoln, RI) has been named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division II All-American Second Team, it was announced Tuesday.

Daugherty accounted for nearly a quarter (22.7%) of the Merrimack’s offense this past fall with 40 points on the year to lead the team and ranks tops among freshmen in the country. With 16 assists on the year, Daugherty set a program record at Merrimack and ranked first in the nation in Division II.

Helping Merrimack to a program-record 13 wins and a semifinal berth in the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs, Daugherty already holds four single-season school records at Merrimack and ranks third on the all-time scoring list behind Kristen Belair ’07 (99) and Jaclyn Germano ’10 (60).

Daugherty’s offensive output also helped the Warriors to a program-best 64 goals, an 8-1 record at home, a six-game win streak and a No. 8 national ranking—the highest in program history.

Second year head coach Anne Rounce recently spoke of the first-year standout.
