Curran Unveils 2014 Football Schedule; Spring Game Set for Saturday (1 p.m.)

2014 Merrimack College Football Schedule

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Highlighted by a trip to a Division I opponent for the second straight year in addition to a five-game home slate, the Merrimack College football team and second-year head coach Dan Curran are pleased to officially announce the 2014 football schedule, as announced Thursday morning.

But before the Warriors look to next year, they will wrap up their spring season this Saturday when the team hosts its annual Spring Game at Martone-Mejail Field at 1 p.m. Team Navy will take on Team Gold in a friendly, full-length game scrimmage in the team's tuneup of the spring before breaking for the end of the semester and summer.

Coming off its best season in four years, Merrimack will hit the gridiron in early September to kick off a 10-game regular season campaign followed by the third installment of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Weekend in November.

The Warriors' 2014 slate includes a road trip with another Northeast Conference (Div. I) opponent for the second year in a row, as well as five home dates at Martone-Mejail Field, highlighted by Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 18 against Assumption.

For the second straight season, Merrimack will elevate its schedule to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) ranks when it makes the short trek down to Rhode Island to square off with former NE-10 rival Bryant University for the season opener on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Warriors and Bulldogs will be meeting for the first time since September of 2010 and for the third time overall since Bryant made the jump to Division I. It will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Merrimack holding a slim edge (6-5) in the series despite dropping the three contests played since the Bulldogs elevated to the DI ranks.

The following weekend, Merrimack will open up NE-10 action when it travels to Pleasantville, N.Y., where it will aim to remain unbeaten against Pace (Sept. 13) before the Warriors' home opener against LIU Post (Sept. 20).

After closing out September on the road against reigning NE-10 runner-up Stonehill (Sept. 27), Merrimack turns to October to face Saint Anselm (Oct. 4) at home before a challenging road test at rival Bentley (Oct. 11).

Finally, the Warriors round out the regular season with its annual Homecoming Weekend contest on Saturday, Oct. 18, when the team welcomes Assumption College to campus. A week later, the team concludes its road portion of the schedule at perennial contender New Haven (Oct. 25) before enjoying back-to-back home contests to close out the year with reigning conference champion American Int'l (Nov. 1) and Southern Connecticut (Nov. 8).

For the third straight year, the Northeast-10 Conference will host its Championship Weekend on Nov. 15, with playoff seeding matchups to be determined at a future date.
