NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After wrapping up an incredible two-year run as one of the top quarterbacks in the Northeast-10 Conference, the region and the entire nation, senior Joe Clancy (Newburyport, Mass.) added another honor to his resume after being named to the 2013 New England Football Writers All-New England Team, as announced Tuesday.

Clancy, who was already named the NE-10 Offensive Player of the Year for a second straight season, as well as a Harlon Hill Trophy Regional Finalist, joins 27 of the other top-ranked players – from both Divisions II and III – at schools across the New England Region. It marks the second year in a row that the Newburyport, Mass., native earned a spot on the All-New England Team.

Clancy became the first student-athlete in Northeast-10 history to pass for over 4,000 yards in a single season. He led the conference and ranked second in the country in passing yards (4116) and passing yards per game (374.2), while leading the nation in passing touchdowns (48), completions (396) and completion percentage (64.4%), while ranking first or second in the nation in multiple offensive categories. The Newburyport, Mass., native was named a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist late last week.

The Division II Northeast-10 Conference had nine players selected, while from Division III the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference had seven picks, while the New England Football Conference and the New England Small College Athletic Conference had four picks each.  The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference had three selections.  One player came from Springfield College which is not affiliated with a New England Conference.

The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12, at the Montvale Plaza, in Stoneham, Mass.
