Where Are They Now: Jarrod Pelletier

Former Merrimack football player Jarrod Pelletier (2001-04) took his work from the gridiron to the office just after his graduation from Merrimack in May of 2005. Jarrod now works as an Equity Analyst for Putnam Investments, serving in that capacity for the last two and a half years.

Pelletier graduated with a degree in finance from the Girard school of Business and International Commerce at Merrimack College. During his senior year he earned an internship with his future employer, Putnam Investments.

"The business program at Merrimack College helped me to obtain an internship with Putnam Investments in our Andover offices, giving me my first foot in the door to the investment management industry," stated Pelletier. "The relationship the business program has with Putnam and their internship program acted as a launch pad for my career here.

After completing his internship during his senior year, Pelletier accepted a new position at Putnam Investments an internal advisor. Jarrod acknowledges that Merrimack helped him find a career that makes him happy.

"Given the small school atmosphere at Merrimack, it helped me to create relationships with the staff and professors which gave me the ability to get the one-on-one help that I needed in order to more fully prepare myself for life post graduation," said Pelletier.  "My professors at Merrimack all had successful careers in the industry, and their advice and guidance gave me a more direct path to achieving my goals."

Founded in 1937, Putnam Investments is a leading global money management firm with nearly 75 years of investment experience. At the end of April 2012, Putnam had $124 billion in assets under management. Putnam has offices in Boston, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney.

Pelletier has also tried to stay as involved in the Merrimack community as possible as he is a part of the Girard School of Business mentoring program. He is currently working with the alumni relations office at Merrimack to create the first-ever formalized alumni network for the football program.

"Jarrod has been a great bridge to the alumni for our football program," said football head coach John Perry. "He is a great example of what a Merrimack education can turn into in the future."

Pelletier currently works as an equity analyst in the international division of Putnam doing fundamental research and analysis on all international consumer stocks in the retail, hotel, travel & leisure, and media sectors throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada.

He is in charge of making buy and sell recommendations on stocks that have a direct impact on the funds and investment choices for his shareholders. His day to day decisions and recommendations can affect people on a daily basis.

There is a lot of travel involved in Jarrod's career as he is almost always on the road in a different country.

"I travel globally to meet with company management teams (CEO & CFO), sell-side analysts, consultants, and also to attend global conferences and trade shows to help better shape my investment thesis on the stocks I cover," says Pelletier. "My travel can take me to as close as Canada, or as far as the United Kingdom, Europe and Far East Asia."

To most the real world after college may be a scary place but for Pelletier he found a career that will make him happy for many years to come.

"The ability to compete everyday; when you play sports all of your life, competition is something that surrounds you every day, and without even knowing it, you take that for granted," said the Merrimack graduate. "My job allows me to compete everyday and on a global scale.  My team's performance is relative to not just people in the U.S. but to people managing money all over the world, and it is something that is quantifiable and scalable on a daily basis."

In 22 career games for the Warriors, Pelletier compiled 56 tackles and one interception defensively. On the offensive side of the ball, Pelletier recorded 165 rushing yards, 52 receiving yards and four total touchdowns during his playing career.
