Baseball Closes Out Season with 3-0 Loss at Stonehill Sunday

EASTON, MA- The Merrimack baseball team endured a 3-0 setback in the final contest of the 2012 campaign at Stonehill Sunday afternoon. The Warriors end the spring with a 17-32 record on the year with a 4-17 mark in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference. The Skyhawks soar to 30-18 overall and 13-8 in divisional play.

Merrimack was led by Eddie Newton (North Billerica, MA) with three hits in the game. Dionys Quezada (Lawrence, MA) collected a pair of base knocks on the afternoon.

Casey Cotter (North Hampton, NH), Joe Mantoni (Northbridge, MA), Alan Pastyrnak (Bristol, CT) and Joe Burnham (Woburn, MA) all landed hits in the season finale. Cotter picked up the Warriors' lone extra-base hit on the day with a double.

Stonehill broke up a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Dan Pidgeon laced a single through the left side of the infield with two runners aboard to drive in Steven Popp from second.

The hosts added a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth to extend their lead to 3-0. After Dan Fratus was hit by a pitch and Billy Karalis drew a walk, Popp tripled to left with one out to plate both runners.

Mantoni started the game on the mound and pitched six innings while recording nine strikeouts. Brett Julian (Weymouth, MA) tossed 1.1 innings of relief and fanned one batter. Travis Terrill (Hudson, NH) registered the final two outs for the visitors including a strikeout.
